this is probably going to sound horrible, but normally rich girls don't commit suicide because they're well educated. and i was impressed that a smart girl like you would be in that position.

Ribbons & Pearls answered:

Again an ignorance about depression. It has nothing to do with your socioeconomic class or education or anything. It is a mental illness and chemical imbalance in your brain. It’s a sickness that can affect anybody, just as cancer can affect anybody.

Excuse me?! Yea, it does sound pretty horrible. You know why? Because it’s people like you, ignorant and insensitive people like you, that feed the stigmas surrounding mental health and make it harder for those who need help, to seek it. Because they’re scared of your reaction. Being told that they can’t possibly be depressed because they’re too pretty, too smart, have a great family.

Depression doesn’t care what you look like, how much money your family makes, or how intelligent you are. Actually, studies have shown that those with higher IQs are more at risk for depression. Or correlated with, I forget the exact findings. But the point is, depression can and does affect anyone, and it should never be treated as something that could have been prevented. Are you kidding me? You think I and others like Pentel CHOSE to just let depression control our lives? That we wouldn’t have prevented it if we could?

How about you educate yourself before you claim that being educated and smart makes you exempt from mental illness. You might just realize how incredibly wrong you are.
